No one likes bad breath. If people are complaining about how stinky the air coming out of your mouth is, look for the cause. Here are four simple reasons why your breath is stinky.
1. You Just Woke Up
Morning breath isn’t a myth. When you sleep, your mouth dries. Saliva is used to combat bacteria that cause bad breath, so when you wake up, your breath may smell. There’s no way to avoid this other than to eat breakfast and brush your teeth.
2. You Smoke
Smoking can cause tobacco to linger on your breath for a long time, no matter what you do. And although you should know this, smoking also causes a multitude of problems, include gum disease and stained teeth. The best way to avoid this is to quit smoking.
3. You Don’t Use Proper Oral Hygiene
If you’ve been slacking off on brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash, that may be the reason as to why your breath smells. Doing all of these twice a day can improve your mouth’s environment. A few ways to ensure proper oral hygiene include:
• Flossing thoroughly to remove all food from your teeth.
• Brushing for at least a couple minutes.
• Gargling mouthwash for a minute.
4. You Ate Something That Causes Your Breath to Smell
Garlic and onions are two prime examples of foods that make your breath stink. You can remedy this with mouthwash or gum, but it may not kill the stench for a while. The best way to not have smelly breath during a date is to avoid these foods.
Having good oral hygiene is important, not only for the sake of others, but also for you. Keep your mouth clean and avoid smoking. If your breath still smells, it may be a sign of a serious disease. Make sure to talk to your doctor if that’s the case.
