Do you crave unhealthy, fatty, junk food? Researchers from Imperial College London tell you to blame it on your genes!
Two Genetic Variants
Certain people have 2 genetic variants called FTO and DRD2. These 2 are responsible for craving junk food because they modify the level of dopamine in the body; this chemical substance that regulates the sensation of reward and craving.
Genetic Variants Study & Results
To better understand this relation between genes and cravings, researchers led a study on 45 Europeans Caucasian males. Using a technique called Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI), researchers discovered that people with FTO gene are more likely to be obese because their brain activity increased when looking at unhealthy food; while DRD2 gene altered the dopamine level in the brain.
