Have you ever went to the doctor’s office for bloodwork and got hit with a bill for thousands of dollars? While some people might not realize how much they are getting billed because their insurance is paying for it, others are struggling to figure out how to cover the cost of their required bloodwork. A California-based company is now offering more than 150 tests for less than $10. They gained approval from the FDA for their new technology that can perform complex tests using no more than a few drops of blood, instead of all the vials of blood you once needed drawn for the same test.
They are looking to replace all of the typical IV draws with a simple prick of the finger. The results are the same, but it is a lot less hassle and stress involved for the one who is getting their blood tested. You can now go in and get a lab test done without having to worry about having a doctor write up an order for you. It also allows you to get answers without having to fight the insurance company on whether they participate with the provider or not. Since you are paying for the test on your own, the doctors don’t have to assume responsibility for what you had done and the insurance company isn’t responsible for paying the bill.
They are looking to expand into more than 8,000 Walgreens stores across the country. If that happens, it means more and more Americans are going to be able to get the low-cost bloodwork they desire without having to visit their doctor in the beginning to get the order.
Women can find out if they are pregnant and whether their hormone levels are rising accordingly without having to wait and get an appointment with the doctor first. You can monitor your cholesterol levels and make sure they stay at a healthy level. All of these things can be done for a fraction of the cost compared to what it would cost if the insurance company was involved. Many states prevent patients from being able to do anything without a doctor’s order, but that won’t be the case soon when these testing procedures are implemented everywhere around the country.
