If you’re used to having a sports drink before exercising you might want to switch for a spoon of sugar instead.
A new research published American Journal of Physiology - Endocrinology & Metabolism suggests that a spoonful of sugar can be better for athletes than any sports drink.
In particular, long-distance cyclists who add a spoon of sugar to their bottle of water had better endurance performance than others. That’s because sugar is made of sucrose while most sports drinks are based on glucose.
Athletes who consumed sucrose had more stable blood sugar levels and comfortable guts than those who had glucose-based drinks.
