Staying fit is often challenging but for some reason, staying fit as a couple, or more specifically as newlyweds, can be even more difficult. This situation often paints the picture of two young people just starting to lay the foundation for the rest of their lives. Whether it be starting from the bottom in new careers or buying that new home they can’t quite afford, resources are typically very limited.
This exciting time can also be a stressful one, pushing health and fitness to the back of ones mind. After all, you’ve got the rest of your life to get fit right? Unfortunately once we develop bad habits it is difficult to break them, especially when it comes to food we love.
Being a couple means that everything comes in twos. There must be two portions of chicken, two servings of broccoli, at least a medium pizza and so on. You start calculating budgets for one meal and multiplying it by two. If money is tight, as it often is for newlyweds, it can seem daunting.
It is important not to lose sight of eating healthily and remaining active, even as careers and children take over. Don’t buy those easily zapped T.V. dinners or bags of chicken nuggets. Spend 30 minutes cooking a healthy meal from scratch, it’s cheaper and easier than you think. Find time to jog with each other, motivate each other. Even a long walk in the evenings to wind down after a busy day is great. Most importantly, motivate each other to keep this up, you’ll be happier and healthier for it.
